How we’ll use this fund
What it funds: microgrants for young changemakers running arts and culture projects in their own communities, approved on a rolling basis. What projects can focus on: connecting young people with art, art materials, art classes, support for rural artisans, and digital tools that help artisans sell their work. How money is released: Udayaa reviews every project and pays artists, teachers, suppliers or partner institutions directly. Who can apply: any young changemaker in India with an arts or culture project for their community.

I'm Nina Koripella, and I'm raising ₹75,000 to start a microgrant fund for arts and culture projects led by young changemakers across India.

I graduated from Temple University with a degree in theatre, and I now work as an actress in the film industry. I've watched the people around me find real connections to their culture and identity through the arts, and I've found them too. I want more young people to have that, and I want the artists who carry these traditions to be paid for their work.

Most children in India get very little time with the arts. An RTI found that India has about one art teacher for every 1,400 students, and that a child gets less than 20 hours of arts education a year.

The people who keep India's art forms alive are also few and poorly paid. Cheriyal scroll painting, a 400-year-old storytelling tradition from Telangana, is practised by three or four families. Two in three handloom weaving households in India earn under ₹5,000 a month.

This fund gives young changemakers the money to close both gaps in their own communities.

Funds go through Udayaa Impact Foundation, a Section 8 nonprofit. You get an 80G tax receipt.
